Last weekend I headed up to South Lakes Ski School for the old school ‘pros and joes’ wakeboard contest. It was super awesome and was probably the funniest event of the season so far
We were riding behind Jack Hammersley’s sweet old Nautique and the rules were that everyone had to ride an old retro board..

I was lucky that I found an old Tara Hamilton pro model Hyperlite down at Quayside and managed to sneak a few practise sets in beforehand- not to say it still didn’t feel super wired and I rode on it like a total sketchball
With my board all set, I also managed to sweet talk the guys over at O’Neill wetsuits into sending me out a suit from their retro collection.. It was ace!

The contest was split into two divisions, ‘pros’ and ‘joes’, and I was the only girl riding.. No girls division, it definitely felt like an old school contest!
Having thrown down the first invert of the day in my practise set I was feeling pretty happy with myself – I think the boys were nervous they would get beat by a girl haha!
Despite all the banter on the dock, the guys laid it down and we all put on a good show. I was stoked I landed a clean front roll, yet I couldn’t compete with Kurt Grahams batwing on a one directional board with toestraps.. Crazy!
All in all it was a super awesome day. Super fun to go to an event and not have to worry about riding the best or winning the medal.. It was just about having fun and I think that’s my favourite thing to do
Big thanks to Jack Hammersley for a fun day, not to mention a great party after too..
I think Adam and I’s outfits stole the show
